Sox crush Hamels, Win Opener 8-0
In their first game of the season, the Red Sox showed their muscle in an 8-0 win over the Phillies. Clay Buchholz came out on the mound as an ace and did not allow a hit until the 4th inning. Buchholz would end up throwing 7 scoreless innings, allowing only 3 hits and striking out 9. Another focal part of the Sox win was the big bats that came alive and well in the opener. Dustin Pedroia cracked 2 dingers and knocked in 2 runs en route to a 3 for 5 day. The nail in the coffin occurred in the top half of the 9th when Phillies pitcher Diekman allowed the bases to become loaded. Newly acquired Hanley Ramirez hit a grand slam off of Diekman, and the score was then 8-0 in favor of the sox. Layne would come in for the Sox to pitch the 9th and close out the game. An overall great game for the Sox, and the fans certainly hope to see more of the same in the upcoming games.
Great start to a season that promises quite a bit. So glad to see the boys back out there.
